About Asili Roots

Asili Roots was built from the inside out.

We’re Martin and Veronicah — and our story is already a meeting of worlds. Veronicah grew up in Kenya, carrying the culture, the language, and the pride that runs through everything we create. Martin’s path to Africa didn’t begin with a business idea. It began with a feeling he still can’t fully explain: being received, not as a visitor, but as family. A son. A brother. An uncle. From day one.

That kind of welcome changes you. It tells you something about what humans are capable of — across every boundary the world tries to draw between them.

Our children carry African roots. Our traditional Kenyan wedding sealed what was already true. And somewhere along the way, the question of where Martin “belongs” quietly answered itself.

Veronicah sometimes jokes that Africa got to him long before she did.

Martin didn’t arrive at this out of curiosity alone. He arrived out of conviction — shaped by years of listening, learning, and knowing there’s always more to understand.

Who Asili Roots Is For

For the diaspora — wherever you are. Lagos, London, Kingston, Nairobi, Berlin, New York. For everyone who grew up between worlds and refuses to choose just one. For those who wear their roots, not just carry them quietly.

We’ve seen it in our own lives: friends spread across continents, thousands of miles apart — and yet unmistakably connected. A shared language that doesn’t need words. That feeling is real, and it deserves to be carried somewhere. That’s what this brand is for.

For allies who don’t see Africa as an aesthetic — but as a source.

Asili means “origin.” These pieces are for everyone who knows that roots aren’t a weight. They’re a foundation.

What We Stand For

Asili Roots is a lifestyle brand with a clear point of view: African identity, culture, and nature deserve to be celebrated on their own terms — with depth, pride, and no apology.

That means no frozen image of Africa. No single story. No reduction to one aesthetic or one era. Africa is vast, layered, and alive — and so is its diaspora. And so is what we create. Expect range and evolution: from cultural motifs to wildlife icons, from minimal to bold, from celebration to reflection.

It also means taking design seriously as a form of storytelling. Some of what we make is simply beautiful. Some of it goes further — setting the record straight, giving back visibility to the figures, movements, and achievements that history tried to sideline. Because the story of Africa and its diaspora is one of the greatest stories ever told. It just hasn’t always been told honestly.

We’re not trying to speak for that story. We’re trying to make space for it.

What We Make

Apparel that carries meaning without shouting it. We started with unisex tees — and have since grown into long sleeves, hoodies, and sweatshirts. All classic fits, built to last, made for everyday wear. Designed to be worn anywhere, by anyone who knows what they’re carrying.

Made, packaged, and shipped locally — because how something is made matters as much as what it says.

Our Values

Authentic · Empowering · Culturally rooted · Respectful & proud

Why It Matters

Because representation needs everyday objects. Because a T-shirt can carry a statement — not a loud one, but a real one. And because “Asili” — origin — is a reminder that home is something you carry, not just somewhere you live.

Some of our designs go further — they’re about setting the record straight. Celebrating the figures, the movements, and the achievements that history tried to erase. Because representation isn’t just about today. It’s about reclaiming what was always there.
